What is an enzymatic knowledge machine?
An enzymatic knowledge machine is an abstract machinic assemblage of functional conceptual elements designed to be plugged into psychic systems to catalyze positively transformative cognitive engagement.
I contrast EKMs with the “anaesthetizing information machines” (AIMs) of the market, and, essentially, the idea is to find novel ways to stimulate critical thinking concerning our place as subjects in society to make us stronger, freer, and better able to navigate it.
It’s worth mentioning too that EKMs are intended to borrow from the viral architecture of AIMs in order to counter them. More prosaically, they are intended to bite the media hand that feeds them with its own teeth. See more on the theory here at academia.edu.
Structure
This EKM is structured into constellations and nodes. Constellations are philosophical concepts listed here. Nodes are individual post pages nested within these constellations. So, within the constellation you will find a node or nodes, and within a node you will find a combination of visual, sonic and written texts aimed at catalyzing knowledge of that concept.
Operating Instructions
The machine here is currently operable. Simply go to the terminal and choose a node. You will be presented with a combination of catalysts for the concepts related that node. Feel free to explore and return later to the terminal for more. Alternatively, start with a constellation to explore a concept you are interested in.
Note that the main written extract in the node will sometimes lead you to my archive homepage where you can see the context of the text and also link both to explanations of the related concepts and the constellations of nodes that represent those concepts.
