The Invisible Kiss

§10

Think of intersubjectivity as an inverted cone

the apex of which

interfaces with the pure (imagined) subject

and the base with the (imagined)

transcendent

Morality functions in a space coextensive

with the cone’s volume

not limited to any

cross-section

Think of intersubjectivity as a Klein bottle

in which

the objective and subjective

fill each other

Morality functions so long as

flow is maintained and

cannot be delineated in terms

of ‘real’ space

Think of intersubjectivity as

a pattern of light that

appears when invisible wavelengths

at the extremes of the spectrum

interact

Morality consists in the pattern’s aesthetic

Think of intersubjectivity as a

jazz riff that begins

as random noise before

gaining rhythm from tensions

between the polars

of the bass and clarion

Morality consists in maintaining

harmonies

Think of intersubjectivity as a poem

that escapes the boundaries of its own form

to rumble, wobble and weasel its way

into the whirl of you and I

Morality consists

of our foxtrot through its beats.

Don’t think of intersubjectivity

Morality is the kiss of invisible threads

without which we would fall forever.

This elegant and delicate abstract artistic construction set alone in space represents the invisible threads of subjectivity.

”The ‘Between’ is not an auxiliary construction, but the real place and bearer of what happens between [us]… it has found no specific venue in the concept of the individual or the community. It is the real third.”
— Martin Buber, Between Man and Man (1947)
